mini-EVS meeting in Paris!!

Tere tere people

As you may know I just spent some days in France! I was in Paris just for one day and 2 nights and then Kêlig took me to this amaizing green and sunny place called Brittany!!

so, in Paris, we had a mini-EVS meeting! As you can see (in the only picture I have...) we gathered Amelie, Katha, Perrine (from Pahkla), Jonathan, me and Kêlig! was sooooooo nice! we had nice fondue dinner and then some beers in Amelie Poulain's coffe place! we even had a last beer close to the Moulin Rouge for just something like 140 EEK!!! eh eh eh
in that fondue restaurant we even found some Eesti bank notes!!

and then, next day, we moved to Brittany!! so, we made a 400 km trip, up north! On the way, i must say that I saw more cows than ever!! they are everywhere!! so, we went for a visit in

Mont Saint Michel, beautifull place!! Maybe you will remember because it was the desktop image of Aude's laptop! yes??

we then spent a evening in Rennes, where Mimie, Aude and Jessy joined us! it was a nice place, but, my favourite part of this trip (along with the EVS meeting) was Kelig's place!! I was amazed with the green beautifull sea, the triangular roof houses made of stone... you should go to St. Malo, if you can! It's lovely!

so, there we are: Ke, Mimie, Aude and me! oh, and our friend wind was there too!!
we had really nice time there, eating good stuff all the time!! Kêlig was a good guide to his own city and I guess we were the first visits he received...

and after the Baltic Sea, we had to try the "Mancha Sea"!
during these days, together with Aude and Kêlig, we were thinking about where we would like to go for our next EVS meeting... and, we think that it could be really really nice to visit Georgios in Patra!! i guess most of the people have never been in Greece, and maybe we can have a cheap meeting blessed with good weather... so, what do you think about this??

i leave you with this song, that could be our motto: "Universal traveller"!!
see you soon somewhere!!

To Miss - HAPPY BIRTHDAY - Lee

All the best for your birthday!!! May all your wishes come true and may all your enemies have bad acne ;-)

Hopefully you're doing well and are still able to party a bit on your birthday although it's "Good Friday" ! Because here in Germany ALL the clubs are closed and there's no dancing allowed (don't I live in a developed and liberal country?).

Spring is in Portugal. Where are you??

Tere tere everyone!!

after almost one month away, i hope we ALL can bring our blog back to life!! =)
so, i am writting for 1, 2... some reasons!!!

first -> spring arrived to Portugal with all it's power! temperatures are rising, rain has stopped... we are a happy country now!

second -> maybe you heard (i know the germans did) about that portuguese guy missing in Berlin. We was found dead in the river... nothing to say, just to let you know

third ->i miss you all guys!! =) i will not be able to make it to Laulupidu... but, i am planning to visit Eesti in August, the last week. Right now I can only think about my trip to France!

forth and the real reason why i am writting -> is to let you know that
Portugal is the country, in Europe, with the cheapest hotels!!
.
it is on the news today that the Hotel Price Index (www.hotels.com) points 77 euro as an average for a night in a portuguese hotel!! (instead of 87 euro average charged last year).

In opposition, Switzerland is the only country in Europe where the prices actually went up, in the last months!! It has the most expensive hotels in Europe, 144 euro avarage per night!

Now, guess which city has the most expensive hotels in the world.... If you said Moscow, you are right!! 231 euro per night to sleep in russian capital.

so, all this, just to let you know that i live in this cheap, sunny country, with 1000 km of sea side and a lot of good food to offer!! Book your trips to Portugal!!

(oh yes, my government pays me to advertise like this!! eheh)

Love you all

Crazy Carnival in Portugal

Tere Dear friends!

maybe you dont remember... but Carnival in Estonia was damm boring!! Me, Julk, Lena and Thomas went to some crazy brazilian party... but I was dreaming about Carnival in Portugal. Last year i was in a Youth Exchange, so no celebration, for me... this year, I had it all!! Great party with my friends, on the streets of Ovar, a city by the coast that has great tradition in Carnival.

So, do you remember Pedro? He was in Estonia in May 2007, and you also met him in Festa do Avante. So he was this cowboy and I has some kind of "bling-bling queen"

at some point of the night, we met a Barcelos cok!! I sent a modern version to some of you! this is the traditional version

and later on we found her friends!!

for me, these were the best costumes of the night! but there were several more!!
We met with Jesus Christ (not Jesus from Spain), some teletubies, hello Kitty's, fireman, and a hole lot of other strange creatures! so, if you enjoyed these pictures, ask for more, and I will show you more!! eh eh

how were your carnival parties??

it's snowing in Portugal... a lot!

this picture was taken by a portuguese person , in the portuguese city of Melgaço, today!

Tere tere

Today I saw snow falling from the skies into my face! it's true!! It has snowed a bit in the very North of Portugal, close to Spain. Before Xmas some villages were surrended by snow, temperatures fall to -6 in some cities and it was all over the news... nothing special if you ask me!
But today Porto woke up under the snow. Almost every city in the coast line had a bit of snow. Some cities had a lot!! It's quite normal to snow in Portugal, in the mountains or in the interior of the country. But it almost never snow close to the ocean. In my city the last time it snowed was when i was 11, in '94! So, 14 years later it snowed again!! Just a bit, for less than an hour. Nothing is white, everything is wet! Temperatures in my city are around 0 degrees during the day. I do not remember such a cold winter as this one...
and of course, all of this, in the news, makes me think of Estonia. Specially about that wonderfull day that we went sledging to Kumu!! Makes me remember the snow fight we had in fron of Baltijam, when coming from a dinner at Kelig's place! oh sweet memories!!

so, what's up for your New Year?? i challenge you guys to post here your New Year resoluntions! I guess everyone has the same saying in every country: "New Year, New Life"... at least in Portugal we do have. So, if you ket me know what you are up to this 2009 I will tell you my resolutions. I bet you will be proud of me!! =)

Merry Xmas, happy new year

right now, if I could I would hug you so so so strong that your bones would crack!! =)

It s me, Gigi!

Hello everybody! I know I havent posted here for ages and I apologise.... :( I miss you and I always think of you there is no question about that but this December has been one of the busiest periods I remember in my life :D
So, first thing to happen, I visited Brussels at the very beginning of the month for 4 days. It was a short "business" trip where I had a meeting with the other members of cultural booklet project team and we developed our project. For more information you can read my blog, traintrip, but in general it was a nice opportunity to find myself abroad and Brussels is a beautiful city!

From 5th Dec to 14th December I was the Coordinator of a informal education training we organised (by we I mean AEGEE-Patra). We had to find accommodation, food, conference room, organise sightseeing, an excursion and the parties (last but not least :D) and actually we were working from 9 to what time the party ends every day.... Add to this the riots that happened here and the need to protect and make this bunch of foreigners feel safe and you have the whole picture... :D Anyway, the whole event was very rewarding cause it was very successful at the end, everybody had a great time provided by AEGEE-Patra :D

Group picture!!!!

To finish the story of my December, one more thing to say.... I got a job as Santa Claus :D Actually two jobs, one was last Monday, I visited a school hired by the parents' association and offered presents to small students, it was so funny! :D This Saturday I will be Santa in Carefour, the french supermarket, come and see me :D I dont have pictures from the school but I plan to make several on Saturday, I ll post for sure :D

So, this was briefly my December... I wish everybody MEEERRRRYYYY CHRISTMAAAASSSS
and a really really really HAAAAPPPYYYYYYY NEW YEEEEAAAARRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!

Re: New EVS in your project

There are no new volunteers in my project, they still can't gei rid of the old one:))).
I was talking about one crazy Ukrainian person:P.
Love you people.

do you know the next volunteers in your project??

tere tere dear missing people.
today, i was talking with Luis (few lines down you will understand who is Luis) and I just realized that I FUCKING MISS YOU! Portuguese people are known for being melancolic and sad, for being to much attached to their roots, their people, their music. you know me, not always like this! if you can, try to find the meaning of the portuguese word "Saudade" and you will understand how i feel today! I miss specially Lena and Thomas, my brothers during the last months of my EVS. Without them I would have left Estonia earlier, and you know it...

so, today, the day of the "mellon collie and the infinite sadness", i here leave you with a challenge! So, do you know the volunteer who followed you in your project?? Have you ever talked to him/her? As you know I met some of the volunteers that followed you in your projects, so I can help you to find them. my challenge is: FIND THE VOLUNTEER WHO FOLLOWED YOU IN YOUR PROJECT. GET HIM/HER TO TALK ABOUT IT!

so, I met one of the volunteers that followed me. He is called Luis Alonso, 22, spanish. he arrived in Tallinn in May, and just a few days after he came to Portugal for that Youth Exchange I was preparing, remember? So, i spent a week with Luis, and we have been talking (on msn) on a daily baisis. I here let you his interview for SIIN's website (for the same feature I interviewed some of yoou!)

"My European Voluntary Service"
, by Luis Alonso

Luis Alonso, 22 , is an EVS volunteer in Tallinn since March 2008. He is working in a project called "UPDATE", and hosted by the NGO "Youth Union SiiN", during the whole year. As him, tens and tens of volunteers choose Estonia to develop their projects. Here we have a little interview with him some days after his arrival.

Why did you decide to be European Volunteer?
Well, I wanted to do this year some kind of long project as a volunteer. I participated in 3 international workcamps during the lasts years and there were a great and enjoyable experience for me, but I wanted to join in a biggest and longer project, and when I heard something about EVS, I took all the enough information about it, read everything, and I realized that it is an opportunity that you can do only one time in your life, so I think that at my age and in this stage of my life now was the best moment to get involved in a project like this.

I did all the arrangements with my sending organization, and when they asked me about the projects and the countries, I answered that it would be better if I do one project far from my home, so when I saw “Tallinn” , I didn´t hesitate in trying to take this one.

Actually, the most important thing is the project, all of them are interesting, but its has to motivate you a lot, so if the project is very good for you, and you like the place where you do that, the answer is excellent, and your motivation is total. Working in an international atmosphere and multiculturalism are things which I love, and I can feel them and enjoy in this project I have been chosen.

Why this project?
My project is related with media, youth information, and multicultural dialogue. For the beginning we are going to develop a portal (UPDATE project) about youth information , doing also by youngsters, and there they will develop different topics related with youth mobility, the opportunities of going abroad and develop different kind of projects thanks to “Youth In Action Programme”, and so on.

On the other hand , I´m going to organize activities to our youngsters, and I have total freedom to propose new things to do ( It would be interesting something like short films, creative and artisitic expression, cuissine, and so on..) That is another positive point of my project, total freedom to do new things, or things that I could consider interesting, as well as my bosses and the youngsters, obviously.

Other part which is very interesting of my project is the area related with the Intercultual Dialogue. Our organization works very actively in the EU Programme “All different, all equal”, with the participation of youngsters in different seminars related with this topic and organizing them aswell. We want that young people have clearly the meaning that every person is the same as the other without distinctions for any reason; everybody has the same rights, because we are just the same. We are people.

Why Tallinn, why one year?

In my opinion, you know better a place when you are there, living, get into the daily life, knowing people… you can taste the atmosphere much better than if you go only as a tourist during some days. And also you know more about the situation, way of live, of the society in this city, town, country, and so on. You understand much better different situations which couldn´t you know if you are not at the exact place where happens.

One year is the maximum time you can be in an EVS project, and I chose it because we, as a volunteer, have only one chance to do a project like these, so I want to get involved and enjoy it as much time as I can. I read before previous experiences of EVS volunteers in intenet, and really the majority who had 6 months projects finished so happy, but after that time they wanted have chosen a largest project because they were enjoying it so much when it stopped! So I didn´t have any doubt in order to select one year long term project.

What are your feelings here these first days?
About my feelings here in the first days… they are very good.
I arrived to Tallinn, 5 days after it I went to Portugal 8 days in an international youth exchange, and I am again in Tallinn, so sometimes I don´t know where I am, how old I am, or what my name is!!

But by now my adaptation is going well, I´m knowing the city, which is so beautiful!! I´ll discover everything better with the time, and I have taken notes and information about a lot of places and things before my arrival and I want to visit and see here.

Weather is not as cold as I was waiting for… but we are having a strange winter everywhere. Anyway, in one year I will have the opportunity to know better the real Tallinn´s winter, he he.

Furthermore, the city where I am from is colder than the southern cities, so I can adapt myself better, hehe. Even more… I like snow, hehe! And here we have had snow, now sun…. everything is enjoyable!

What about your future expectations?
It´s soon to make a big summarize of my work these first days, I´m just landing! He he. But my expectations are very good, I have met the youngsters I am going to work with, and they are nice, open minded, laborious and funny people! I´m not feeling alone these first days thanks to them and l think we have a very good team work.

People I´m knowing here have a lot of initiative, and they want also make me feel like at home, so it´s grateful! I´m begining to know some volunteers with other projects in the city too, really kind and open minded people, and I will know more in the near future, so think this multicultural and international atmosphere will be possible this year in Tallinn thanks to all I said before. We will know a lot of things about each other cultures, and in my opinion, mixture of all the cultures make to get rich a person more than any money.

Besides, I´m going to learn a lot of new things about media and communications, with the help of the organization and a volunteer who is a professional journalist and will do the project with us. I think that I will contribute to let to our youngsters know new interesting things, but I am sure that they will do the same with me, I will learn a lot of things from them. It will be a big multicultural exchange, which is good for everyone!

Do you miss somebody or something?
Maybe you can miss your friends or family at the beginning, but on the other hand this is an experience which I´ll always remind, an important stage of my life. One year is one year, and I´m beginning to make new friends here and meeting with very interesting people, so I am sure that within one year I will not want leave Tallinn, and I´ll miss all these friends I will make here. But it´s better not to think in the end, I have just arrived!!

What will be different after your EVS experience?
In my opinion, it will be a personal and professional development for me, an important stage of my life. About other volunteer´s experiences, I know that some fears or doubts about what they would be able to do before the EVS disappeared after doing that. They are now ready to do more things in every different aspect. This year of volunteering will be also to get know better myself. When I will return to my country, I will see some things different than before the EVS project, and I will can do or prepare things that I couldn´t do if I were not in a project like this.

(Luis Alonso in the first picture, taken in Lisbon. Can anyone tell me where??)So, i hope you guys can follow me in this challenge. I would like to hear about the people that followed you... some of them are already gone from Eesti... hope you make it!

just one information more: THOMAS IS BACK IN TALLINN!!!
